What Is Wrecking Balm
How Tattoos Are AppliedA professional tattoo artist uses a specially designed tattoo machine featuring a cluster of needles attached to an Tattoo Supplies electric powSchulteer supply. A tattoo machine allows the artist to inject ink into the dermis, or the deepest layers of your skin, which shed cells much slower than surface skin. This is why tattoos are permanent, and why lasers that penetrate beneath the epidermis are generally required to remove them. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, amateur tattoos are frequently created by forcing varied concentrations of India ink under the skin with a needle at varied depths. The Academy states that blue and black tattoos are the easiest to remove, while yellow and green are the most difficult.
Wrecking Balm CreamThe active ingredients in Wrecking Balm cream are phyllanthus emblica fruit, also known as Indian gooseberry, which can be effective in lightening hyperpigmented skin. Salicylic acid is a mild exfoliant frequently used in skin-care products for acne, psoriasis, warts and calluses. It causes the cells of the epidermis to shed more easily. It is not capable of penetrating to the dermis, where tattoo ink is deposited. Other ingredients in Wrecking Balm include cocoa butter, shea butter and aloe, moisturizers that have no effect on tattoo ink but can help moisturize skin irritated by chemical and mechanical exfoliation.
Wrecking Balm Demo-MaticThe Demo-Matic is a hand-held exfoliating machine for which the manufacturers of Wrecking Balm have received FDA approval. It works similarly to the over-the-counter exfoliating devices marketed to treat blackheads and pimples. Using abrasive pads, the Demo-Matic removes surface skin cells. The kit instructions state that the user should divide the tattoo into quarter sections and buff each section with the Demo-Matic for 45 seconds. After using the machine, the Wrecking Balm cream is applied.
Effective Tattoo RemovalThe three most common and effective methods of tattoo removal are laser surgery, excision surgery and dermabrasion. Surgical excision can work for very small tattoos but is not a viable option for removing large pieces. Dermabrasion, which may not be completely effective, involves using cold to numb the skin, then sanding it down with a high-speed rotary abrasive device much stronger than the Demo-Matic. Lasers heat and shatter the tattoo ink, which is then absorbed into the bloodstream and excreted from the body. It should not be used as a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. LIVESTRONG is a registered trademark of the Lance Armstrong Foundation.
